music rec post: Elephant Stereo - Clara Years

Life's been busy in a good way and I'd need a lot more time to write it down, but for now I'm happy to return with another music post!

I don't know if a lot of people are familiarized with the work of PilotRedSun, but asides his surreal animations and unsettling short clips they had a really interesting music project on the side; the music itself was deleted off the main channel but there are still uploads on youtube that salvaged as much as possible from it. It has a very special electronic sound to me, fun enough that tracks never blend into themselves but also quiet and gentle enough that the albums are best enjoyed in a single sitting or as great focusing/relaxing music.

I know it might not be great praise to recommend an album while immediately comparing it to another one, but after all the years since first listening to the former, it is just now that I've found another artist that manages to encapsulate that same personality and soothing mood in their work, and as such the whole album has been a great (and quick enough? most tracks are under the 3 minutes mark) listen. It feels like finding again something that felt long lost and I'm pretty confident in this artist's catalog being my comfort place for the week.

They are also on spotify so I figure it should be available on other services too, do check it out!

music rec post: Fruit Island - standards

I've been through a big music slump during the past months, but the love for digging up new things and just sitting through them to discover them is slowly but surely coming back; and therefore I can finally bring a new album rec again:

As fortuitous as things are, I actually came across this one through an adorable meme video (which you can watch here) so it also has the added benefit of coming across it more organically. Onto the album itself:

There are some genres that I wish I could get more out of and math rock and any adjacent math things is definitely one of them, much like prog, if something does not have a distinctive sound to it more often than not it ends up sounding repetitive and trite, not only within the same album but according to my mental image of the genre as a whole. This album does not suffer of that, it's a fun and fresh listen that kept me engaged throughout the whole thing while keeping the distinctive structure of the genre itself. It feels summery in its lightness which complements the fruit theme. I'd say this record works in the same way soundtracks do since it can easily be played to work alongisde in order to keep yourself focused and entertained.

Seems this is the artist's first full length release so I'll be keeping my eye on whatever else they make in the future too.

music rec post: Ghosts - mitsume

It's been a really long time since I found an album I liked from start to finish, so I've decided to start making individual recs posts for these when I come around them. Today's rec actually comes from another artist's Spotify radio, but the album's first track immediately drew me in and I HAD to check out the whole record. While the track I'm posting here ain't it (youtube forced its premium on me when I tried to link it, this is their single off it)

I think the best way I can describe this record in particular is dreampop soothing enough to just lie down somewhere nice and sunny, and let it soothe you.

note to self - icons

I've been browsing my old graphics' folders and have decided making icons was fun and that I should get back to that. Just need to figure out why my current Photoshop versions makes all small files also look incredibly low res but there's no time like the present to get back into this hobby.

Too bad I'm so lazy when it comes to image searching, though.
